BHEL’s Solar Power systems in India portfolio crossed 370 MW

Indian manufacturing group BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd) has said in a press release that they have crossed the 370 MW mark in year 2016-17. This 370 MW portfolio includes 360 MW ground-mounted power plants and 10 MW of rooftop power plants. According to the statement, out of 370 MW, 170 MW of BHEL-supplied ground-mounted power plants are already working. Moreover,  2,290 KW of rooftop power plants are also presently operating at various locations.

Past year BHEL secured orders for about 131 MW of ground-mounted and about 8 MW of rooftop solar PV plants. This company has also secured its first order to install 24o pumping stations run by solar PV modules.

BHEL’s future plans in Solar Sector:

Organisation is exploring deployment of single axis solar trackers and battery-based energy storage for solar power plants. It’s currently building prototypes like floating solar power plant and solar PV based charging stations for charging electric vehicles. Company has acknowledged the market need for large sized PV plants and accordingly increasing its EPC capacity. BHEL is one of the very few organisations in India that has the expertise in critical parts of the silicon value chain viz., processing of silicon wafer to cell, processing of cell to PV module and in design, supply, installation, commissioning and O&M of ground-mounted and rooftop PV power plants and thus offers turnkey EPC solutions.

Over the last few years BHEL has added several Balance of System (BOS) equipment like Power Control Unit (PCU), HT panels, SCADA system and power transformers to its offering for Solar PV plant. The company has improved its manufacturing lines of solar cells to 105 MW per annum. Moreover, it has also enhanced its solar module productions to 226 MW per annum. It has also set up a total 11.5 MWp of solar power plants in its units at Ranipet, Trichy and Hyderabad.
