The Future of India with Solar Energy

There were those who believed in solar technology as the way forward. And then there were the sceptics, to whom, India’s future in solar technology looked bleak. But, very recently, we’ve suddenly paced ahead – we’ve already become amongst the cheapest producers of solar power. India has already achieved its solar power target four years ahead of schedule. And at ZunRoof, we’re only thrilled to have joined the bandwagon early on.

For us, what started as an identified business opportunity, is soon becoming a tool towards shaping a better, cleaner future for the country. Being blessed with abundant sunlight in India, getting into solar technology was a no-brainer. However, for the longest time, we as a country have been unsuccessful in cracking this technology. With newer findings, ways to cut costs and make solar more affordable, we’ve finally switched up gears towards leveraging this business in changing what the future looks like.

India’s plan to ramp up solar power generation to 100 GW by 2022 is among the largest in the world. It will help bring sustainable, clean, climate-friendly electricity to millions of India’s people.

Generating clean renewable electricity is crucial for India where nearly 300 million people—about a quarter of its population—live without access to electricity. Today, India is one of the lowest per capita consumers of electricity in the world; even when people are connected to the electricity grid, they face frequent disruptions. Add to that the projected economic growth and the increase in population, and the demand for energy in India is expected to double by 2040.

With around 300 days of sunshine every year, India has among the best conditions in the world to harness solar energy. The rapid expansion of solar power can improve the quality of life for millions of Indians, especially for its poorest citizens. It can also create thousands of jobs in the solar industry and underpin progress in all areas of development, helping the country fulfil its dream of becoming the ‘India of the future’.
