R K SINGH TAKES OVER AS MINISTER OF POWER WITH FOCUS ON 24×7 POWER FOR ALL

The two time Lok Sabha member, R K Singh, has recently taken over as Minister of Power and New & Renewable energy. He stresses that the focus of Team Modi 2.0 will quite simply be on reliable and sustainable ’24X7 Power for All’.
“Our focus will be on 24X7 power for all. We want to provide reliable and sustainable power to each household in India. By sustainable power, we mean the commercial viability of power supplied to consumers,” Singh said to the reporters.

He also mentions that he will be briefed about the 100-day agenda, along with other ministers. But the focus remains on the previous line-”24×7 Power for All”. Interestingly, the previous NDA regime had also envisioned 24×7 Power for All from April 1, 2019. Now, finally, the government has given a commitment to work in that direction. Consequently, they will be able to provide electricity connection to over 2.6 crore families under the Rs 16,320-crore Saubhagya scheme.

But why the promotion ?

Previously, Mr. Singh took over as Minister of State for Power, and New and Renewable Energy, under the Modi government. Then, and even now, he continues to be instrumental in the launch and progress of household electricity scheme Saubhagya. Previously, he played a major role in scaling up India’s green energy capacity.

Singh also said that he is aware of the 100 GW goal. He assures us that the government will maintain its pace of growth in the clean energy segment. Today, India has set a target of producing 175 GW of renewable energy. This includes 100 GW of solar energy and 60 GW of wind energy by 2022. As of April 2019, India is standing at 78 GW of green energy, including 28 GW of solar and 36 GW of wind energy.
