Rooftop Solar Power System in India Surpasses 10GW Solar Power Capacity Milestone!

“Bright Future: India has crossed 10,000 MW of solar power capacity today. More than 3 times increase in less than 3 years,” Power, Coal, Mines, New & Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted. India’s Solar Capacity has increase more than three times in less than three years!

Key Solar Power Capacity Milestones for India:

  1. India had 2,650 MW of solar power generation capacity as of May 26, 2014
  2. The country added 4 GW of solar capacity in 2016 achieving 9,016 MW of solar capacity by 31 December, 2016
  3. India achieved the latest milestone of 10GW on March 10, 2017, as NTPC Ltd, India’s largest power producer, commissioned a 45 MW solar power project at Bhadla in Jodhpur, Rajasthan
  4. According to power ministry estimates, 8.8 GW capacity is likely to be added in 2017 which includes about 1.1GW of rooftop solar installations

With a strong commitment to meeting its Solar Power goals (“Nothing on Earth is going to stop us from doing that”, says India on Renewable Energy Goals), we will definitely see India rise to even greater heights on its way to achieve the 100 GW Solar Power target for 2022.
