Why don’t off-grid rooftop solar system use batteries?

Off-grid systems are often termed as stand-alone power systems, mostly used in rural areas. Mostly used in the remote areas, where there is no power supply and it is used to provide electricity to the smaller community.he term off-the-grid(OTG) can refer to living in a self-sufficient manner without reliance on one or more public utilities.

In the day-time, solar panels can generate the electricity in your home, depending upon the load. In order to maximise the solar power, you need to depend on batteries. Plus batteries act as a backup option, it will store the energy during the emergency situations.

Some kind of energy storage such as a battery or capacitor would be necessary to start most AC motors (along with an inverter of course). However, many DC motors would be fine assuming the voltage is compatible. For example, there are many systems that use DC motors directly connected to fans or pumps to operate only when the panels are producing.

Moreover, the inverter converts the DC power from the solar panel into AC power, in order to convert it requires a reference voltage to function. The inverter cannot function without reference voltage. The reference voltage is provided by the battery. It is an essential component of an off-grid system, so it is anyhow required in order to maximise the output.

So, in the end, it is advisable to use a suitable battery depending upon the load.
