The electricity tariff hike is an annual phenomenon in Uttar Pradesh. Sparing the election year 2018-19, the UPERC had announced a hike of 12.72% in 2017-18, 3.18% in 2016-17 and 5.47% in 2015-16.

Electricity has become a basic necessity after food, clothing and shelter and does not have an alternative till date. The existing conventional sources of energy are not only polluting the environment but are also becoming increasingly expensive. For home owners with monthly electricity bill over Rs. 2000 and who have the rights of their roof, solar panel installation  is a highly recommended and smart choice. Unutilized roof spaces can be utilized to produce clean and cheap electricity.

The solar panels generate electricity units equal to the electricity consumption of that particular household. This not only lowers the electricity bill, but also allows owners to sell excessive electricity generated by sending excess electricity produced from solar back to the grid. For instance, if you use 1000 units of electricity in a month and solar on your rooftop produced 950 units, so at the end of the month, you will pay for the net 50 units. If you produce more than what you consumed, excess units will be credited to the next month.

Solar panels on rooftops produce direct current, which gets converted to AC using a grid-tied inverter at the same voltage and frequency that you are getting from the grid. At the same time, your electricity meter gets replaced by a bi-directional meter (called as net meter) to measure the consumption and production of electricity.

For those who own an AC, the cost of solar rooftops for the recommended size of 4-5 kW system ranges from Rs 2.25 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh depending on the customization and type of product one is going for. On an average, customers have reduced around 80-90% of their electricity bills.

ZunRoof will help users generate optimum power output; which, if designed and maintained correctly, will produce 125 units per kW monthly. Once the homeowners are able to recover their investments, which roughly takes 3-4 years, after that their electricity supply will be practically free for the next 20 odd years.
